Kansas Public Employees Retirement System – Russ Lane (Remarkable Chatter Special)

Russ Lane always envisioned himself as a teacher and coach, and for a while, he followed the path of a traditional educator. As a history teacher, football coach and basketball coach, Russ enjoyed the opportunities to share his love of social studies, history, government and sports with Kansas teens. After beginning a family with his wife – and fourth grade teacher – Annette, he decided to supplement his income by doing an internship with Franklin Life, and that experience opened his eyes to the lack of financial preparedness with many of his friends and co-workers.With the goal of “educating the educator” as well as feeding his entrepreneurial side, Russ helped create two financial services companies: Ameritime, LLC, to provide the latest information and guidance to educators about the labyrinthine Kansas education pension system; and Compass Financial Resources, LLC, to provide long-term individual financial planning to families wanting clarity, confidence and peace of mind in their financial future. Through both companies, Russ enjoys taking on the responsibility of teaching financial retirement regarding retirement to Kansas school districts, educators and families, as well as providing invaluable context for the complex and major – and often irrevocable – financial decisions that families make.Russ is a recognized expert on the Kansas education pension system and has more than 25 years of experience as a financial advisor. He is a member of Ed Slott’s Elite IRA Advisor Group℠, an exclusive organization of financial advisors dedicated to being leaders in the IRA industry. He also is an Investment Advisory Representative with National Planning Corporation, and a member of both the Society of Financial Service Professionals and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). He attended and played football at Baker University, then transferred and graduated from St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas.A devoted family man, Russ and Annette have five children (two of whom are teachers) and one grandchild. Their youngest child, Kimber, adopted from Guatemala with special needs, is a real joy to their family. Russ has run half-marathons while pushing Kimber in her stroller to raise funds for the Mother Teresa Charitable Trust Co., founded by Russ. The Mother Teresa Trust has built an orphanage and senior home in a desperately poor area of south central India and currently is raising funds to continue helping orphans, the elderly in need and poor families. Russ also is active in his Parish where he teaches high school CCD and is involved in the Knights of Columbus.
